At Canberra Indoor Rock Climbing, we celebrate diversity in the climbing community and we strive to make our gyms a welcoming environment to all. We encourage anyone interested in climbing to apply!
We have two primary types of employees of Canberra Indoor Rock Climbing: seniors and juniors. Here are descriptions of each:
Senior Employees (18+ years old)
Anyone 18 years and older can apply to become a senior employee at Canberra Indoor Rock Climbing. Senior employees are responsible for serving customers, providing belay lessons and safety briefings, opening and closing the gyms, and also directing the junior employees. Depending on your experience level, there may be opportunities to get involved with route setting and our coaching programs for children and adults.
While previous experience with climbing and the recreation industry is always a bonus, we do not require rock climbing experience for you to be considered. What we are primarily looking for is a willingness to learn and be in a leadership role, a professional attitude, a sense of responsibility, and someone with an eye for safety. All of our employees are required to have a Working With Vulnerable People card, and basic first aid training is highly recommended.
Junior Employees (14-17 years old)
We invite 14-17 year olds to apply to become junior employees at Canberra Indoor Rock Climbing. Junior employees are responsible for much of the cleaning tasks, serving customers, providing belay lessons and safety briefings, as well as coaching our Rock Rats program for young children. Depending on your experience level, there may be opportunities to get involved with route setting.
We understand that many teenagers will come to us with no prior job experience and spotty availability due to school obligations and transportation limitations, and that’s perfectly fine with us (within reason). We aim to make employment at our gyms a positive learning experience for our junior employees.
While previous experience with climbing is always a bonus, we do not require it for you to be considered. What we are primarily looking for is a friendly and outgoing personality, an interest in rock climbing, and a willingness to learn! While it is not required for employees under 16, having a Working With Vulnerable People card and basic first aid training is highly recommended.
